Rugby stars at World Cup dinner
The DHL 2011 Rugby World Cup dinner will be held Friday June 24 at the Conrad Bangkok Hotel on Wireless Road and will feature three former World Cup stars as guest speakers.
Former Wallaby ace Toutai Kefu will be in attendance along with the All Blacks' Frank Bunce and England's Dan Luger MBE.
With the 2011 Rugby World Cup rapidly approaching, the former players will be keen to give their views on what's in store for rugby fans.
They all have great experience of the World Cup. Kefu earned 60 Wallaby caps and played in the 1999 Rugby World Cup won by Australia.
Bunce has 54 All Blacks caps plus four from Samoa and played in the 1991 and 1995 World Cups won by Australia and South Africa respectively. Luger picked up 38 England caps and played in the 1999 World Cup and 2003 edition won by England.
The dinner, which commences at 7pm, includes a sumptuous four-course meal with free-flowing Heineken beer and five bottles of wine per table of 10.
Tickets are 2,800 baht per person or 28,000 baht for a table of 10. Dress code smart casual.
The event will be hosted by Justin 'Sambo' Sampson.
There will be plenty of auction prizes, including two quarter-final World Cup tickets flying with Emirates, as well as pool match tickets, autographed jerseys and rugby balls.

BANGKOK – Conrad Bangkok today announced the appointment of Vincent Mercurio as the hotel’s new General Manager, effective 9 June 2011. Mercurio was most recently the general manager of The London West Hollywood in the United States, voted as the No. 1 hotel in California on the “World’s Best” list for 2010 Travel + Leisure.
Born in the United States, Mercurio brings with him close to 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry and has worked in the United States, China, France, Indonesia, Dubai and Spain. He was manager of Human Resources at Walt Disney Company (Disneyland Paris) and subsequently took up the role of Director of Human Resources for The Ritz-Carlton Atlanta, The Ritz-Carlton Bali and The Ritz-Carlton Dubai.
Mercurio was Executive Assistant Manager of Hotel Arts in Barcelona before he was the Corporate Vice President of Human Resources and Operations for The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company. He held the position of Hotel Manager at The Portman Ritz-Carlton Shanghai and was General Manager for both The Ritz-Carlton Beijing and Ritz-Carlton Lake Las Vegas prior to his appointment at The London West Hollywood.
Mercurio will report directly to Thomas Hoeborn, Regional General Manager – Thailand, while assuming responsibilities for hotel operations, including development of the management team, overall vision for all hotel team members, full financial accountability, creating and enforcing business objectives and goals, driving and delivering property wide projects and ensuring the quality and guest experiences are unique to our property and are consistent with the Conrad Brand.
