Mount Rushmore Road work begins Sunday
The South Dakota Department of Transportation will be working on improvements at 5 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Mount Rushmore Road and St. Joseph Street.
Traffic on Mount Rushmore Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction and St. Joseph Sreet will be reduced to one-lane traffic eastbound. All traffic lanes will be open by 7 a.m. on Monday.
Nighttime closure at the intersection will begin at 7 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
The work is scheduled to finish by 7 a.m. on June 30.

I'm writing this from Mount Rushmore National Park on my Android phone.I felt the need to share some thoughts as I admire the visage of four of this nations principled leaders.I'm watching people from all walks of life and country come here to admire the view and appreciate the sacrifices of those that came before us,and I'm thinking of life back in my familys homestead in IL where taxes are high,rights are either restricted or under attack,and corruption and lawlessness is common in and out of state government.I believe the reason some places are like that is because politicians and citizens don't know what living free really is.I didn't know before moving out here.We tend to think being free means were not living under Chinese or islamic rule,and while keeping the metaphorical Huns out is part of safeguarding freedom,real freedom isn't simply the absence of tyranny.Real freedom has to be defended,it has to be valued,and more vitally it has to be lived.How can a population who was born and raised under a state government that's corrupt in a place where the right to carry a firearm and shoot it is prohibited know how to change,when Liberal communist tyranny is all they know?Its starting to get windy up here and I must go,but I felt it necessary to share my appreciation and thoughts on our rights and freedoms as I admire Mt. Rushmore and its trails on this 70 degree day,with my trusty Taurus 92 on my hip.
