Volunteers needed for Mountain Bike nationals

Breakaway Promotions and Sun Valley/Ketchum Chamber & Visitors Bureau are seeking volunteers for the 2011 USA Cycling National Mountain Bike Championships July 14-17. Sun Valley will host riders and top pros from all over the U.S.

Volunteers are needed be-ginning Monday, July 11 through Sunday, July 17 in po-sitions ranging from trail crew, construction crew, registra-tion, media, athlete support, and hospitality. Each position lasts between 3-5 hour shifts and will be located on Baldy or downtown Ketchum. Positions are filled in a first-come, first-served basis. Dollar Mountain trail run is Saturday

Race director Brad Mitchell is planning his second Dollar Mountain 10-kilometer (6.24-mile) trail run for Saturday, June 25. Last year's event fea-tured 60 runners finishing the technical course that features 3,400 feet of elevation change.

The race starts at 8 a.m. and finishes at The Community School's central lawn area in Sun Valley. Pre-race briefing is Saturday at 7:50 a.m. preceded by race day registration ($40) from 7-7:45 a.m. on the school quad. NHL scout/coach Raeder shares tips with kids

Former National Hockey League scout/coach Cap Rae-der visited Sun Valley over the June 11-12 weekend to teach a group of young hockey goalies from Sun Valley, Salmon and Jackson Hole, Wyo.

Raeder played college hockey for the University of New Hampshire and, in 1973, was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League and WHA Hart-ford Whalers. After his playing career he was head coach at Clarkson University in New York. In 1988 he joined the staff of the NHL Los Angeles Kings.

For the last 20 years he has been an NHL coach and scout and has run a series of success-ful goalie clinics across the U.S.

Raeder's Sun Valley Goalie School was organized for the second year by the non-profit group, The Suns Foundation, and sponsored by Zenergy Health Club and Spa and the Sun Valley Skating Center.

The Fox River ragg wool and leather gloves are very high quality. They are long as well, which means that if you want to pull them up all the way, they will easily cover your wrist. Also, they run true to size, not like the cheap wool gloves you find in a lot of retail and discount stores. Size large really is large, which is why I am giving my large pair to my son, who has big hands, and ordering a medium size pair for myself. The old adage, "you get what you pay for" is true with this product. They are not inexpensive, but they are worth the price, in my opinion. I have had many pairs of ragg wool gloves in the past, but they always ended up with holes at the tips of the fingers. The way these gloves are knit, in my view, should prevent this happening prematurely, if at all. I highly recommend this item.
