The social networking site myspace is now one of the most popular websites on the Internet. I have a profile, as does pretty much everyone else; however, a lot of people’s myspace profiles are really aggravating and retarded. Here’s how to present your myspace without being a complete tool.

Your “About Me”

Don’t go too in depth. If you’re describing on your myspace where you were conceived and how your parents broke up on that spot twenty years later, you’ve gone too far. Try to keep it to a paragraph or two; you can save the rest for your boring-ass memoirs. 

Also, myspace isn’t a place for your emo tears. If you’ve recently been dumped, leetspeak on a myspace blog might not be the best way to express your angst. “i M s0 m4d @ 3riC 4 ch34tiNg” isn’t interesting or comfortable for other people to read. One more thing: enough with those really long questionnaires everyone emails around and posts. You know, the ones that ask questions like “When was the last time you skinny dipped?” Don’t put these up unless you’ve got interesting answers. Otherwise, it’s a waste of the Internet and nobody will talk to you again.

Quizzes

You know quizzes, the little gems that assign you personality traits which you post up on your myspace? These got old on about the second day of the Internet. Enough with the “Which Golden Girl Are You?” already; it’s lame, lame, lame, and in no way scientific. I know, because if I was a Spiderman villain, I would DEFINITELY be Venom about a million times more than I’d be Black Cat. Stupid quizzes.

Posting Bulletins Bulletins go to all of your friends. Use them sparingly. A good myspace bulletin isn’t something like “feeling tired so come post on my profile, k?” You only want to post a myspace bulletin when there’s a significant event, for instance “house is on fire so I’ve got to get out, might not post for a while, k?” Here’s an easy rule to remember: the number of myspace bulletins you post is directly proportional to how much your friends don’t like you.
