Dhoni lauds Praveen terming him as skillful bowler

Kingston: Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was all praise for seamer Praveen Kumar who had a match haul of six wickets in his debut Test match.

“Praveen is a very skillful bowler. Whenever the conditions are helpful, he tries to make full use of it. That's the main reason that he got six wickets in this game,” said the satisfied skipper appreciating the effort of the Uttar Pradesh medium pacer.

The skipper didn't seemed to be too surprised with Harbhajan Singh's pyrotechnics with the bat as the lower-order has been frequently contributing with the bat.

“I always believe our lower order can perform with the bat and our part-timers can take wickets. When we bat, we believe that all our XI players batsmen and vice-versa when we bowl. I happy that Bhajji batted well and so did Raina,” he quipped.

Overall, the skipper was satisfied with the effort of his boys although he feels that there is room for improvement as far as the spinners are concerned.

“The spinners bowled decently. They can still improve the line of attack. They can get slightly better. Of course, it was a bit difficult to bowl with the breeze.”

For Rahul Dravid, who was incidentally also the man-of-the-match when India won a Test match at the Sabina Park back in 2006, the pitch on which he batted five years back was a trickier one compared to this.

“The pitch in 2006 was a lot more difficult to bat on. This was a great wicket. The one in 2006 saw lots of shooters and lifters. Kudos to the groundsmen,” the veteran batsmen said.

Dhoni didn't forget to mention about the Raina-Harbhajan partnership.

“But for that stand (Raina and Harbhajan), we could have been all out for 150. We were able to get more runs and thus gather a handy lead. Then in the second innings, we could stretch the lead to 300 plus.”

The skipper said that they were confident of defending 325 as it would have been tough score to chase on a tricky wicket.

“300 was always going to be a difficult score to chase in the fourth innings. They were off to a flyer but wickets always slow down the momentum and we were able to apply pressure on their middle order.”

“In the first innings, both sides bowled tight and there were not many deliveries to cut. In the second innings, both the sides were lenient.”

Dhoni felt that wicket being a difficult one to bat on, it would have always been advantage for bowlers.

“It was slightly different wicket.

Voelker and Bowling Look to Settle the Score in Rubber Match ...

Taking on Liz “Girl-Rilla” Carmouche in a women’s welterweight matchup, a heavyweight contest between Lavar “Big” Johnson and Devin Cole , as well as a 185-pound bout between Adlan Amagov and Ronald “The Choir Boy” Stallings , and one yet to be announced bout that will air on Showtime.

The event will mark STRIKEFORCE’s debut at the Palms and the organization expects to put on several events at the fight-friendly venue throughout 2011.

“The rubber match between Voelker and Bowling will not only settle the score between the two, but it will also help determine another rising contender in the welterweight division,” STRIKEFORCE CEO Scott Coker said. “This event on July 22 is loaded with potentially explosive fights and we’re excited to kick off our relationship with the Palms with such a great card.”

Tickets for STRIKEFORCE is presented by Rockstar Energy Drink.

Kansas City’s Bobby Voelker (23-8) has proven that defeating him is no easy task, as he’s shown by winning three of his last four, including the last fight with Bowling in October.  This July he’ll have his sights set on Cincinnati’s Roger Bowling (9-1), who earned his nickname “Relentless” thanks to scoring seven of his nine professional victories by way of stoppage. Fresh off a win over Josh Thornsburg in March, the 28-year-old now turns his attention to winning the trilogy.

Former welterweight champ last year, the 25-year-old Canadian Kaufman is a tremendous finisher with 10 of her 13 wins coming by way of knockout.  Former U.S. Marine Liz Carmouche (5-1) steps back into the cage for the first time since battling STRIKEFORCE women’s welterweight champion Coenen in an exciting bout last March.  The aggressive striker, who currently trains in San Diego, Calif., meets Kaufman in what should be an explosive 135-pound women’s bout.

Lavar Johnson (15-4), having lost only once since August of 2008, holds wins over the likes of Lolohea Mahe and Virgil Swicker.  He looks to spark a run up the heavyweight ladder when he meets Team Quest product Devin Cole (18-9-1), in what will surely be an explosive matchup. Cole, a wrestling standout who won a national championship with Southern Oregon University, is 5-2 in his last seven bouts.
