Sabre Resources, Latin Gold and Talisman Mining top the Proactive Investors ...

The All Ordinaries fought back from an early sell off to close the day just three points weaker at 4645, although the benchmark index is off around 9% since the April 2011 twelve month peak.

Trade was choppy across all of the sectors, with 21 of the top 50 stocks by market capitalisation finishing the day in the green, with 26 in the red and three unchanged.

In general, volume returned to the market, after yesterday’s low trade affected by the public holiday in Western Australia.

On the day, the best Rippers were headed by Sabre Resources (ASX: SBR) which spiked 36% after announcing more high grade lead and zinc from channel sampling at the Harasib II prospect and Ongava poly-metallic project in Namibia.

The other major Rippers heading north included Latin Gold (ASX: LAT) 32%, Talisman Mining (ASX: TLM) 22%, Gullewa (ASX: GUL) 22% and Penrice Soda Holdings (ASX: PSH) 21%.

The Dippers, or biggest percentage fallers, were actually surprisingly subdued, with no stinkers worth reporting.

Topping the most actively traded stock was Goodman Group (ASX: GMG) with 66 million shares changing hands, with Telstra (ASX: TLS) 59 million, Lynas Corporation (ASX: LYC) 52 million, Baraka Energy & Resources ( ASX: BKP ) 38 million and Axiom Mining (ASX: AVQ) 35 million.

The big banks and miners controlled the most traded stocks, with BHP Billiton (ASX: BHP) having 17,800 trades, with National Australia Bank (ASX: NAB) 12,400, Westpac (ASX: WBC) 12,400, Commonwealth Bank (ASX: CBA) 12,200 and ANZ Bank (ASX: ANZ) 11,300.
