Commissioners make deep cuts

Initially, the library system submitted a budget request for approximately $3.5 million, a request which was cut to $2.6 million by the commissioners. The cut reduces the library system’s budget by nearly 30 percent. The difference between the commissioners’ suggested budget and the library’s approved budget last year is more than $1 million. Kempa said he plans to appeal to the commissioners during the July 5 meeting and said the commissioners are requesting information which would prove a sufficient number of residents value services provided by the library. Also, Kempa said they would like to see what the budget would look like with their recommended budget allocation as well as a alternate budget which would consider a 15 percent cut. " I'm shocked that the commissioners have considered give some of those of us employed by the county a raise while making such drastic cuts to other county agencies. Perhaps I'm alone in my thinking but I'd rather forego the raise so others can keep their jobs. The idea of a COLA during such deep budget cuts is rediculous! This commission is quickly becoming as unbalanced as the last one! " " I thought this set of commissioners was going to be better than the last, but now I am starting to wonder. It makes no sense to drastically cut one county agency to fund raises for another county agency. Thank you Johnson and Kolb for taking a stand. And Van Matre, what exactly is fair about this situation? If employees are the county's most valuable asset, what are we saying about the county employees that will not be receiving the raise and may end up unemployed? " I thank you for attending each and every meeting and reporting back to the community so that the junk our elected officials are doing are no longer behind closed doors. Its about time these elected officials start hearing and feeling the back lash from the communities they represent when they make foolish and unfair decisions. Mr Martin thank you! How to Survive Library School: Week Two

A sense of humor helps me get through library school and I'm all excited because I got my midnight assignment in around 7:15pm. Actually I plan on doing the Sunday work tomorrow (Thursday) and starting on next week's work. I've gone through one highlighter (and I don't highlight all that much!) and one printer cartridge already, have three spare cartridges, and plan on being more selective in my printing from now on.
